Market Overview: BTC Pulls Back to $83,000 as Rising Treasury Yields Pressure Risk Assets

The crypto market saw a notable pullback this week. After briefly climbing above $87,000 last week, BTC gradually retreated toward $83,000 as overall risk appetite weakened. Geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Iran again became a key market focus. After U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices surged, with Brent crude briefly moving back toward $105 per barrel. Higher energy prices added to inflation concerns and pushed U.S. Treasury yields higher, creating additional pressure on risk assets, including cryptocurrencies.

Long-term U.S. Treasury yields continued to rise, with the 30-year yield briefly reaching 5.62% and the 10-year yield climbing to 5.29% on September 29. Market expectations for the Federal Reserve's next policy moves remain divided, with investors weighing the possibility of further rate cuts against the risk that rates could remain elevated for longer. Meanwhile, U.S. job openings fell to 7.079 million in August, while consumer confidence in September dropped to its lowest level in roughly 12 and a half years. Markets will next focus on the September 30 release of core PCE inflation, the final estimate for second-quarter GDP, and ADP employment data, followed by the September nonfarm payrolls report on October 2. These indicators will provide further clues about inflation and labor-market conditions and their potential impact on the Fed's monetary policy.

The Bitunix Token Pulse Weekly will continue to track the performance of the top 300 tokens by market capitalization on Bitunix, while also monitoring major U.S. stock contracts to provide broader cross-market insights and market references.

Crypto Performance: Market Splits as Major Cryptocurrencies Underperform

The crypto market showed clear divergence this week. Roughly half of the top 300 tokens by market capitalization on Bitunix posted gains, with the median weekly return standing at -0.05%. Major cryptocurrencies including BTC, ETH, and HYPE underperformed the broader market. BTC fell 3.80% over the week, while ETH declined 3.41%. HYPE saw a sharper pullback, falling 11.15%.

Top Gainers: QNT Surges 261% as DeFi Tokens Continue to Outperform

Quant's native token QNT topped this week's gainers, rising 261.22% over the past seven days. The DeFi sector also remained relatively strong, supported in part by expectations for further development of decentralized finance following the SEC's announcement of its "Innovation Exemption" on September 18. Dozens of DeFi-related tokens, including ONDO, AERO, COMP, and JUP, gained more than 10% during the week.

Quant (QNT) is a blockchain infrastructure project focused on interoperability. Rather than building another standalone blockchain, Quant aims to address the difficulty of communicating and transferring assets across different blockchain networks.

Quant was developed by Gilbert Verdian around 2018. With a background spanning fintech and cybersecurity, including roles involving the U.K. government and financial institutions, Verdian identified the fragmented nature of the blockchain ecosystem as a major structural challenge. Although blockchain networks have developed rapidly, assets, data, and applications often remain isolated across different ecosystems, creating a problem similar to the "walled gardens" that existed during the early development of the internet.

To address this challenge, Quant developed Overledger, an interoperability architecture designed to operate above existing blockchain protocols. The goal is to create an "operating system for blockchains" that enables different networks to communicate and interact through standardized infrastructure without requiring fundamental changes to their underlying protocols.

QNT Technical Analysis: Rapid Rally Brings Token Close to Its All-Time High

QNT began its latest rally on September 27, climbing from around $100 to approximately $350 within a short period. Because the move was both rapid and highly concentrated, the trading window was relatively narrow, making the rally difficult to navigate. As QNT approached its historical high, selling pressure increased and the token experienced a sharp pullback from around $350.

After consolidating around $230, QNT surged again over the following 24 hours, gaining more than 30% and moving back toward its previous high. This marked the beginning of a second leg higher.

QNT Fundamentals: Enterprise-Focused Business Model with Limited On-Chain Visibility

Quant's core product is Overledger, which is not a consumer-facing DeFi protocol. Instead, it provides interoperability infrastructure for banks, financial institutions, and enterprises, connecting different blockchain networks as well as blockchain systems with traditional financial infrastructure.

This enterprise-focused model differs significantly from typical DeFi projects. Because much of Quant's activity is tied to institutional and enterprise applications, publicly available on-chain data is relatively limited. Metrics commonly used to evaluate DeFi protocols, such as TVL, MAU, and DAU, therefore provide limited visibility into the scale of Quant's underlying business and adoption.

One of the key catalysts behind QNT's recent rally was The Clearing House (TCH)'s announcement on September 28 that it had selected Quant to provide interoperability and transaction orchestration support for its tokenized bank deposit network. The Clearing House is a major U.S. banking payments and clearing infrastructure provider whose networks include CHIPS and RTP. Following the announcement, QNT surged sharply as the market renewed its focus on Quant's potential role in banking and tokenized financial infrastructure.

QNT Smart Money Activity: Increased Market-Maker Participation

Before the rally accelerated on September 28, several on-chain addresses that had accumulated QNT earlier became notable sources of market activity. QNT is currently listed on major centralized exchanges including Binance, Kraken, and Bybit, while its share of decentralized exchange trading remains relatively low. As a result, price discovery during the latest rally has largely taken place on centralized exchanges.

According to Arkham data, major crypto market makers Wintermute and Cumberland began conducting more frequent QNT-related on-chain transactions from September 26, transferring portions of their QNT holdings from on-chain wallets to exchanges including Binance, Kraken, and Bybit. Such institutional movements may reflect market-making activity, liquidity management, or trading positioning, and could affect market liquidity and price formation.

On September 29, Cumberland deposited approximately $1.19 million worth of QNT to Robinhood, representing one of the larger individual on-chain QNT transfers observed recently. Overall, the sharp rally in QNT has coincided with noticeable institutional activity, making subsequent fund flows and exchange balances important metrics to monitor.

Is QNT Still Buyable After the Rally?

Compared with tokens that gradually trend higher and break through resistance levels over time, QNT's latest move has been characterized by a rapid price surge. Such moves can accumulate substantial unrealized profits within a short period, often resulting in greater volatility. If momentum slows or the price begins to pull back, early holders may take profits simultaneously, potentially amplifying market volatility.

The $428 historical high is therefore an important level to monitor. If QNT can break above this level and sustain the move, selling pressure from holders who previously bought at higher levels could gradually diminish, potentially opening a new price range. Conversely, repeated rejection near the historical high could indicate continued profit-taking and selling pressure at elevated levels.

QNT Market Summary

QNT has become one of the market's major focal points after rising from around $100 on September 27 to approximately $350 within a short period, bringing the token close to its historical high. From a fundamental perspective, Quant's Overledger focuses on blockchain interoperability for banks, financial institutions, and enterprises, while The Clearing House's September 28 selection of Quant to support its tokenized bank deposit network has increased market attention toward its potential role in financial infrastructure. At the same time, recent QNT-related activity from institutions including Wintermute and Cumberland highlights the importance of monitoring institutional fund flows, exchange activity, and whether QNT can challenge its $428 historical high after such a rapid rally.

Stock Contract Performance: U.S. Stocks Trade Sideways as CRCL Falls More Than 8%

U.S. stocks remained largely range-bound this week amid a challenging macroeconomic backdrop, with the broader market lacking a clear direction over the past several trading sessions. Several stocks, including CRCL, TSLA, and INTC, underperformed the broader market, each falling more than 5%.

NVIDIA shares edged higher recently, supported by the company's expanded share repurchase program and continued expectations for AI-related growth. On September 28, NVIDIA's board approved an additional $150 billion share repurchase authorization, bringing its total buyback authorization to $235 billion. The announcement initially sent the stock more than 2% higher. NVIDIA also launched its Open Agent Safety Platform, expanding its role in the broader AI ecosystem into AI-agent safety and software infrastructure.

Commodity Contract Performance: Commodities Trade Sideways as Gold Comes Under Pressure

Bitunix offers a range of commodity contracts, including Gold, Silver, Crude Oil, and Natural Gas, giving traders broader exposure across asset classes. The commodity market broadly weakened this week. Gold came under pressure from rising Treasury yields, a stronger U.S. dollar, and expectations that the Federal Reserve could maintain a tighter monetary stance. Spot gold briefly fell below $4,200 per ounce on September 28 and was trading around $4,180 as of September 30, putting its monthly decline at approximately 6%.

Macro Catalyst: Key Event Next Week — U.S. September S&P Global Services PMI Final

Looking ahead, the market will focus on the final reading of the U.S. September S&P Global Services PMI, due on October 5. Because the services sector accounts for a large share of U.S. economic activity, the Services PMI is an important high-frequency indicator of domestic demand, business activity, and economic growth. A reading above 50 generally indicates expansion, while a reading below 50 signals contraction. The September Services PMI preliminary reading came in at 58.7, up from August's final reading of 56.5 and significantly above market expectations, indicating that U.S. services activity remained firmly in expansion territory.

Beyond confirming the headline reading, markets will also watch components such as new orders, employment, and input costs. If the final reading remains elevated, it could reinforce expectations that the U.S. economy remains resilient. If cost pressures also remain high, however, markets may maintain expectations for a relatively restrictive Fed policy stance, potentially weighing on BTC, cryptocurrencies, and technology stocks. Conversely, a significant downward revision accompanied by weaker new orders or employment data could strengthen expectations for slower economic growth and a more accommodative monetary-policy outlook, providing a potential macro catalyst for risk assets.

Conclusion

The crypto market pulled back this week, with BTC falling toward $83,000 as performance across tokens diverged sharply. QNT surged 261.22%, while HYPE and ZAMA, both of which had posted strong gains previously, experienced notable corrections. U.S. stocks remained range-bound, with individual stock contracts diverging as CRCL, TSLA, and INTC fell significantly while NVIDIA and Alphabet remained relatively stable. Commodity markets also weakened overall, with gold falling below $4,200 per ounce and crude oil rising before retreating amid developments surrounding U.S.-Iran tensions and supply risks. At the same time, elevated U.S. Treasury yields remained a key macro factor affecting cryptocurrencies, equities, and commodities.
